Volkswagen will launch the Taikun mid-size SUV and the new Vito in the country in 2021.
Volkswagen Taigun Launch in early 2021 – German carmaker Volkswagen has launched 2 new products in the Indian market this year – T-ROC midsize premium SUV and the Tiguan AllSpace 7-passenger SUV.
The company has no plans for the Any other new cars to be introduced in our market in 2020. However, the company will continue to bring upgraded and special editions of existing cars. The company aims to deliver the new cars to dealers as soon as they are locked.
Volkswagen has already resumed operations at its manufacturing plants. Next year, the German brand will offer two new cars for the Indian market. The company will launch the production version of the Taigun SUV in the first half of 2021, which will later replace the Vento.
The Volkswagen Taigun will be based on the highly localized MQB AO IN platform, which will also serve as the basis for the Skoda-based Vision IN’s SUV, the new Vento and the new Rapid provide the foundation. This mid-size SUV will compete with similar vehicles like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others.

The Taigun mid-size SUV will come with 2 engine options- 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre The new 1.0-litre petrol engine will power all the brand’s products under the ‘India 2.0’ project, which will include a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre TSI EVO.
The engine can produce up to 115bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic torque gearbox. ALSO READ – 6 Most Reliable Used SUV Cars.
The 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine also powers the T-ROC and Skoda Karoq. The engine is capable of producing 148bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Power will be transferred to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.
The powertrain also features cylinder deactivation technology, which deactivates the electric motor by detecting the load on the engine by up to two cylinders. This will help achieve greater fuel efficiency.
Volkswagen is also developing a new compact SUV that will be located below the Taigun. The new sub-4m VW SUV could be launched in 2022 and it will use modern venues, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and other similar products.
Earlier media reports suggested that the company may also launch the next-generation Polo two-seater in India. The new model will be designed and developed on the highly localised MQB AO IN platform.
